Rekha leads the Gen Z by example with her self confidence and wise words and here’s why we love her for the larger than life journey she has had!
Apart from being an actor par excellence, Rekha has always owned up to her morals and who she is as a person. Coming from a generation where actresses were merely used as nothing more than a prop, she made a name for herself in a way that even actors couldn’t. You can call her straightforward or you can call her witty but one thing that she’ll never be is outdated. Her words are timeless just like her movies and it resonates with people from all walks of life. She teaches us not to let anyone dictate what you can or cannot do or the fact that you don’t really need to live up to the ‘expectations’ society has from you. She is opinionated with no filter and she does all of that while dazzling in her golden saree with all that panache!

Here’s why we feel she is truly a treasure for this generation who must appreciate more often!
A fashion Icon
Her fashion choices need absolutely no explanation. Nobody looks as stunning as she does in a saree and the sheer confidence she exudes in them. There have been a plethora of events where other celebrities have arrived super casually and then of course enters the fashion queen to show everyone how it’s done! Even the jewelry that she pairs with her sarees is so ethereal.
She totally breaks the ‘older woman’ stereotype
Even though we’re trying to move forward as a society, unfortunately, there are still many who believe that actresses have a certain shelf life. Rekha is one of the many leading ladies in Bollywood who proves that to be wrong. There will never be a time where she is not relevant in the industry. It’s simply just the power she holds. An ‘older’ actress can look just as sexy on a Vogue cover; beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder.
She unabashedly speaks her mind
After an old interview with Simi Garewal that went viral, the Gen Z realized how Rekha was so ahead of her times. She answered the interviewer’s rather regressive questions about marriage with such wit! In the interview, she is asked if she’d want to marry ever again, to which she asks ‘to a man?’,the interviewer looked perplexed and said ‘obviously a man, not a woman!’ and she replies saying ‘why not?’. She was further lectured on how a woman can only feel secure with a man’s protection and she was not going to take that unsolicited advice at all. This is one of many incidents that prove she had so much wisdom to share and there’s so much to always learn from her.
She is everyone’s biggest cheerleader
Be it gifting a saree or passing on words of encouragement, she has never shied away from complimenting actresses who are currently doing their best work. Many a times we’ve seen her support other actresses by going to their movie screenings and coming out utterly impressed with the film and has been so vocal about it.
Her phenomenal legacy
Being the iconic actress that she herself is, she has given numerous iconic performances that stayed with us forever. Umrao Jaan, Silsila, Khoon Bhari Maang are all movies that stand out in her filmography. She played these with utmost conviction and every single character of hers was different from the other which brought out her versatility.
Happiest birthday to the iconic, bold and graceful Rekha ji who will always make heads turn no matter where she goes!
