The 76th edition of Festival De Cannes aka the Cannes Film Festival, the most prestigious film festival in the world and a highly publicised event officially opened on May 16, 2023. The highly anticipated film festival will run from May 16 to May 27 in Cannes, a resort town on the French Riviera. Just like every year, Cannes 2023 is the talk of the town especially as Day 1 of the festival was an exciting affair giving us a glimpse of what's in store for us. Cannes 2023 opens with Johnny Depp's “Jeanne du Barry”
Cannes 2023 opened with the premiere of the French-language Louis XV period drama "Jeanne du Barry," directed by Maïwenn. The film has been the subject of many headlines as Johnny Depp and Maïwenn have both been the subject of controversies. This is Depp's comeback since his infamous public trial against ex-girlfriend Amber Heard. Even though the court ruled in Depp's favour, many have criticised Cannes for featuring him owing to the domestic abuse charges that arose against him during the said trial. The film received a 7-minute standing ovation from the audience.

Michael Douglas honoured with Palme d'Or
Uma Thurman presented actor Michael Douglas with the honorary Palme d'Or. Every year, artists who have profoundly contributed to cinema are awarded Palme d'Or. Upon receiving the award, Douglas said, “I want to thank all of the filmmakers that I’ve worked with over the years, all of the film crews, the hundreds and hundreds of people that did such great job in their departments, and all of the joy and happiness that we had working together." The legendary actor has two Academy Awards to his name and is famous for his movies like, "The 'Jewel of the Nile', 'Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps', 'Basic Instincts', and more.
Sara Ali Khan, Esha Gupta, and Manushi Chhillar debut at Cannes 2023
Sara Ali Khan made her debut on the red carpet in a desi way wearing an elegant lehenga from designers Abu Jani-Sandeep Khosla. Esha Gupta earned a lot of praise as she looked breathtaking in a white Nicolas Jebran couture gown with a thigh-high slit. Next to make her debut was Manushi Chhillar who dazzled in a white Fovari gown.
Urvashi Rautela's alligator neckpiece makes heads turn
Making her second appearance at the Cannes festival, actress Urvashi Rautela looked glamorous as she walked on the red carpet. However, it was her alligator neckpiece that stole the show. The unique and classy neckpiece has since gone viral.
