Sometimes I wonder, do people even think things through when they do them? Like leave behind a note that threatens hijacking a place to avenge a cockroach in their meal? Well, Birju Salla thought it was a phenomenal idea.

While travelling with Jet Airways earlier last year, Birju Salla had encountered a dead cockroach in his meal of parathas, fruits, croissants and a chana masala that came with a dead cockroach.

As expected, he complained to the authorities on board but his grievance was allegedly poorly handled by the airline staff who offered him nothing but a subsitute meal instead of medical help even after he claimed he was sick.

A vegetarian, Birju Salla was perhaps deeply offended by the incident and callous handling of the situation by Jet Airways’ staff, and may have decided to extract vengeance.

A letter threatening that the plane was to be hijacked was found in a Jet Airways’ flight bathroom, and resulted in the flight being diverted and a lot of confusion and fear.

Turns out, it was Birju Salla, the man who was wronged, and had sworn to extract revenge against the airline company.

Apparently he waited for over a year just to make Jet Airways suffer and pay for what they did.

Well, sadly enough, this isn’t a movie, and Birju Salla has already confessed to leaving the note behind. A strong recommendation from the Civil Aviation Minister to have Birju Salla put on a no flying list, with additional statutory criminal action taken will only make matters worse for him.

Perhaps there was a more sophisticated, legal and civilized way to have his complaints be heard rather than leave a terrorist hoax on an airplane.

If only good sense prevailed before, not after. Sadly, that is not the world we live in.
