Mare of Easttown

Two characters from two completely different worlds have more commonalities than we think. Here’s why!

A seven part series starring the powerhouse of talent, Kate Winslet as Mare Sheehan, Mare of Easttown followed her solving the disappearance of a teenage girl who was eventually found dead. Similarly, The Buckingham Murders starring the iconic Kareena Kapoor Khan as DS Bhamra follows the case of a missing boy whose body is eventually found disposed off near a lake. But it's not just the story that shares similarities, the two impactful characters also feel like they share the same mind.

As viewers, we’ve seen them both be put in various situations and their reaction to that is rather uncanny. Of course both the actresses are well-known faces in their respective industries and have proved themselves time and again with their vast body of work. While we anticipate a collab between the two IRL, for now, all we can do is connect the two badass female cops through their imperfectly perfect characters!

Here’s why!

Both of them are female detectives who are often underestimated by the system

Being a female cop does not come easy at all and both of these characters showed us that since the very beginning! Both of them were often not trusted enough by their colleagues or the people they questioned. This stems from the fact that both of them are women and people seldom don’t trust if these two detectives can keep their emotions aside and solve a case the way they’re supposed to.

Both of them have gone through the pain of losing a child

In The Buckingham MurdersDS Bhamra’s son is shot by a psychopath and in Mare of Easttown, Mare’s son Kevin takes his own life. The grief and trauma for both the mothers was beyond words could explain and both of them portrayed that on screen impeccably well. In the name of duty, both had to put on a strong front at work while keeping their own dark past aside. It makes them both empathetic towards parents who have lost a child. At the same time, you can see the sadness in their eyes often when they are just expected to go about life like nothing happened.

Both of them are asked to handle the case of missing child which they initially find tricky

Since the two have lost children of their own, both the stories have arcs where being put on the case of a missing child just hits too close to home. But they work hard towards giving other parents the closure they never got.

Their eyes do the talking

Kareena Kapoor Khan and Kate Winslet are both actresses who are blessed with beautiful eyes. But that’s not all! It's uncanny how both of them show various emotions through the depth in their eyes which just lures you further into the story more than you anticipated.

As both of them keep digging further in their cases, they find something sinister ahead

Neither were your basic whodunnit stories that we come across every once in a while. Both DS Jaspreet Bhamra and Detective Mare weren't women who would just buy whatever story is being sold to them by the witnesses! Because they had curious minds, they looked above and beyond than what most cops do. In the end, the truth was completely unexpected for us as the viewers - something completely sinister that lingered on our minds for a while!
