New Update
Call Me Baee

Since we binge watched Call Me Bae in one go over the weekend, we're left craving for more. For those of you feeling the lack of a series like this,  here are some shows and movies that you can add to your watchlist until we get a season 2!

If you have an overall look at Ananya Panday’s Call Me Bae, you’d notice the storyline revolves around themes of riches to rags, fashion, friendship, workplace drama, and love. Over the years, we’ve had a plethora of examples from the West that we’ve either grown up watching or binge watched with our girlfriends. Sarah Jessica Parker’s Sex and the City was one of the first examples of the ‘new girl making it in a big city’ trope. Followed by Legally Blonde that became every girl’s favorite film in the early 2000s, simply because it made us feel seen for once. It showed the world that the female lead can be way more than just an eye candy in a film.

Since then, a lot has changed and we’ve had so many strong women centric stories that are rather well-balanced between extravagant glamor while also giving out a meaningful moral to the audience. Call Me Bae might be a mixture of all of these stories put together but it sure is the first legit chick flick India has had since Sonam Kapoor’s Aisha. While we dissect and discuss every part of season 1 and eagerly anticipate season 2, you can keep yourself entertained with these classics that might have often made it to your feeds over the years!

Check them out!

Emily in Paris - Netflix

Emily and Bae have way too many things in common. Their love for fashion is of course the first thing but just like Bae went to Mumbai, Emily went to Paris and started a whole new life there. The two are known to be good at their jobs but also have tons of drama following them there. Similar to Bae’s arc, Emily also finds best friends in a new city and someone to trust at her work place. They both fall in love with a guy way different from their ideal type but the chemistry between them is just undeniable. So if you’re in a Call Me Bae hangover, Emily in Paris should be the first thing on your binge list.

Schitt’s Creek - Netflix

Bae and Alexis both lived in a bubble of their own. Their world was made up of their own first world problems and it only revolved around them. Losing everything and coming down to earth was something neither of them took well in the beginning. But as time went on, they both turned into people who valued friendship and other small things in life more than money. You see a lot of Alexis in Bae and hence now would be the best time to give Schitt’s Creek a much needed re-watch!

Two Broke Girls - Prime Video

The title itself justifies why it is on this list! You go from one riches to rags story to another. Two Broke Girls revolves around Max and Caroline who dream of running a cupcake business but because they lack the funding, they find themselves working as waitresses at a diner.

The Morning Show - AppleTV+

Call Me Bae is not just about fashion and friendship, it is also Bae’s journey as a journalist and how she finds herself in the middle of uncovering some really serious issues. Similarly, The Morning Show is also popularly known for its honest take on journalism in America and all the politics and drama that go behind the scenes of putting a news channel together.

Sex and the City - JioCinema

Carrie moves to New York to find love and some best friends she can count on. It is all about her journey of making it in a big city without letting it break you down. And of course this would be another show where you fashion enthusiasts could ogle over Carrie’s undeniably gorgeous outfits, just like you did with Bae’s.

Legally Blonde 1 & 2 - Prime Video

At the core of it all, Call Me Bae is about this girl who everyone assumes to be ‘ditzy’ just because she likes pink and wears luxury brands. But much to everyone’s surprise, she is so much more than that. She can ace every issue that’s in front of her in her own unique way. But Legally Blonde was the OG story in this genre! Elle Woods walked so Bae could run today and that definitely justifies her place in your watchlist!

Confessions of a Shopaholic - Disney+Hotstar

Bae is someone who talks to her bags like they’re her children and simply cannot live without them. In a similar fashion, Rebecca also cannot help but resist shopping for luxury bags and clothes simply because she feels they literally speak to her. Both of these characters have a similar moral to their story where in they learn there’s more to life than just materialistic things and hence Confessions of Shopaholic makes for a good weekend watch!

The Devil Wears Prada - Disney+Hotstar

If horrible bosses had a group chat then Miranda Priestly would for sure be besties with Satya from Call Me Bae. They both run a tight ship at work but also one that’s dishonest and full of drama. It’s all about climbing up the ladder and surviving in a cut throat career field which is a vibe that both, Call Me Bae and The Devil Wears Prada share.

Which of these would make it to your watchlists? Let us know in the comments below!
