From the trailer, it looks like the stakes are higher than ever and more gruesome than before. Who won, lost, died, and survived this bloodbath? Because while Guddu Bhaiya and Kaleen Bhaiya will pick up from where they left us, our lives have continued for the past three years. So, let's go back in time to keep up with what has happened so far in this longstanding fight for the throne!
Mirzapur was one of the first few shows that gained mass popularity and launched us into the era of OTT and its stars. We witnessed the power of talents like Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, Rasika Duggal, Shweta Tripathi, Vikrant Massey, Divyendu Sharma, Shriya Pilgaonkar, and many more before they conquered the world of acting. The show, with graphic depictions of sex and violence, had the fans of GoT draw parallels with it, while the meme culture had a blast with the show's colourful language and characters. But apart from remembering how this show became a pop cultural phenomenon, here is a season-wise recap of the much-awaited show!

Season 1
In the first season, we are introduced to the pivotal characters and given the lay of the land of UP's Mirzapur, which is dominated and run by the Tripathis. The crime family that deals in the business of katta and affim is led by the formidable Akhandanand “Kaleen” Tripathi (Pankaj Tripathi), whose over-enthusiastic and egoistic son, Munna (Divyendu Sharma) can never catch up to. Essentially, the story follows the internal and external conflicts between the father and the son amidst whom, Guddu (Ali Fazal) and Bablu Pandit (Vikrant Massey), sons of a highly moralistic lawyer, start to butt in.
After Munna gets beaten up badly by Guddu since he tried to scare the pandits after killing a groom at a wedding, Kaleen Bhaiya extends an offer to Guddu and Bablu to join and expand his illegal operation. These two extremely talented and relentless brothers quickly rise in the syndicate, which infuriates Munna, who is already frustrated by his father's continuous belittling of him. Fuel to the fire is added when Munna's crush, Sweety (Shriya Pilgaonkar), falls for Guddu, and her sister, Golu (Shweta Tripathi), wins the college presidency against him. This and his father's doubt about his ability to manage the empire enrages Munna, who plots to assassinate his father, but his plan falters, resulting in the brutal murder of his best friend. The brothers, on the other hand, after tasting the sweet taste of power, start to aim big, and their ambition drives them to climb higher than even Kaleen Bhaiya in ranks. While inside the Tripathi house, the sexually frustrated Beena Tripathi (Rasika Duggal) gets raped by her father-in-law, who finds out that she has been sleeping with Raja and cannot have anyone else impregnate her other than a Tripathi. Amidst all this, Guddu gets married to Sweety, while Bablu and Golu start to fall for each other. After Guddu kills Kaleen Bhaiya's nemesis Shukla in Jaunpur without his permission, tensions rise high on the brothers going rogue. Finally, Munna gets his perfect opportunity to seek revenge for the pandits and ends up causing the whole Gorakhpur wedding massacre, where he opens fire, killing many people, but especially shoots Sweety after she reveals she is pregnant and blows Bablu's brains out.
In a strange turn of events, Mirzapur starts with a wedding debacle and ironically ends with a wedding massacre, leaving many traumatised and ensuing the battle of revenge, justice and the throne, which continues in season 2.
Season 2
As a result of the wedding shootout last season, the land widens with many new characters, and the number of enemies against the Tripathi family multiplies. Guddu and Golu are walking on the path to settle the score, similar to Kaleen Bhaiya's second wife, Beena, a vengeful minister’s aide, and Sharad, son of Rati Shankar Shukla, who seeks revenge on Guddu and the throne of Mirzapur.
The second season, which centres on a quest for vengeance, picks up immediately after the first season's finale; Guddu and Golu manage to escape the wedding massacre and vow to get the throne of Mirzapur. They are training, plotting and waiting for the perfect opportunity to strike the blow while getting in bed with Lala. Kaleen Bhaiya is busy trying to fulfil his dream of entering politics by supporting the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Surya Pratap. He utilizes Munna and gets him involved with Pratap’s widowed daughter, Madhuri (Isha Talwar), who, to everyone's shock, manages Munna quite well after their marriage and even plays the hand quite well with Kaleen Bhaiya. The focus shifts, and we get to be introduced to new players in town as Sharad Shukla (Anjum Sharma) gears up to betray Kaleen Bhaiya and ends up befriending Munna while Golu, in need of help, cunningly utilizes a mysterious Robin (Priyanshu Painyulli) and Bihar's Dada Tyagi's son Chote (Vijay Varma). As the CM dies, after being killed in an accident orchestrated by Sharad and Madhuri's chachu, who gets caught in a sex scandal, Madhuri ascends to become the new CM, which derails Munna’s plan to execute his father, who unexpectedly names Munna his successor. But as Beena becomes an informant for Guddu and Golu, aiding them against Tripathis, she also seizes the perfect opportunity with Maqbool to end the abusive reign of her father-in-law, Satyanand Tripathi. His death causes a rift between the Kaleena Bhaiya and Munna, benefiting Guddu and Golu, who sneakily attack them. During the intense gunfight, Munna gets shot by Guddu and Golu, both of whom finally settle their scores, while Sharad takes away a heavily injured Kaleen Bhaiya. While in Bihar, we see another fight between the family of Tyagi that ends up with the death of one of the twins, and Guddu's father ends up killing the police officer with whom he was collaborating to arrest Guddu.
At last, Guddu takes the Mirzapur throne with Golu, signalling a massive shift in power dynamics. But not all is over. Whoever sits on the throne is bound to have a chain of enemies, and Guddu and Golu have built quite a large one in their quest for justice.
The season 3 trailer hints at intense confrontations and power struggles following the dramatic events of season 2. As Mirzapur grows darker and more brutal, it looks like now it's all about legacy, bravado, mayhem, and survival. Mirzapur season 3 premieres on July 5th on Amazon Prime Video!
