Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar was recently released on Netflix, and while some love it, there are quite a few who aren't too happy. Here's what the Janta is saying about it!
India's auteur filmmaker, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, who is loved for his signature style of filmmaking, recently made his OTT debut on Netflix with Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar. This series tells the tales and befalls of the courtesans in pre-independent India who, like the country's fall, also lost their identities at the hands of the Britishers. Apart from extravagant sets, lavish costumes, and stunning cinematography, the eight-episode series also features an ensemble cast of Manisha Koirala, Aditi Rao Hydari, Sonakshi Sinha, Sanjeeda Sheikh, Richa Chadha, Shekar Suman, Taha Shah Badussha, Sharmin Segal Mehta, and many more. The series also marks Manisha Koirala reuniion with Bhansali after 28 years when the duo worked together on Khamoshi: The Musical in 1996 which was also SLB's debut feature film. Heeramandi also marks Fardeen Khan's return to screen after 14 years!
The Janta has mixed reactions to this series. While some absolutely loved everything about the show, from the direction and acting to aesthetics, others aren't quite happy. People have different favorites in terms of actors, scenes, and what they liked in the show but Sharmin's performance particularly seems to not hit the mark for the Janta.

muʻāf three ways in less than a minute 🙏, but this the least annoying bit about #Heeramandi where pre partition Lahore is predominantly Muslim, all the courtesans are Muslim, and sufi shrines look like mosques 🤦♀️ pic.twitter.com/aZKNJtGTEr

Who's gonna tell her that wide lifeless eyes and slow movement of lips aren't enough to pull a character like Alamzeb who's madly into poetry, undoubtedly the weakest link of #Heeramandi pic.twitter.com/hg5TiYRkfG

Despite the allure of its grandeur and visual aesthetic the essence of Heeramandi is undeniably exhausting to the core. pic.twitter.com/wiOVzQceud

Heeramandi" on Netflix is a sultry and seductive tale, unraveling the secrets of India's courtesan culture, where passion and power entwine, and forbidden love stories unfold, leaving viewers tantalized and yearning for more. pic.twitter.com/NDJQqozHs6

The way he portrays queer characters & his deep understanding in getting into the psyche of the roles he plays…. Commendable. Huge fan of this artist.
The show is incomplete without Ustaad ji. This scene near the finale…. 🙏🎬🫡 pic.twitter.com/7p5drEJgps
Honestly I have never seen such a twisted & complex character like Waheeda. She was broken, intense and even funny ...so many layers ..I just loved her character.@iamsanjeeda you did justice to the role .. fabulous performance!

I’m sorry but I could not take heeramandi seriously since all the main actors are average looking at best (except aditya who also can’t act that well) these are the diamonds nawabs were ruining their lives over. Be so serious
