Heeramandi first look: Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s OTT debut is a visual spectacle with an all women led cast!

Netflix dropped the highly anticipated web series Heeramandi’s first look which stars many iconic actors who we’ve missed watching on-screen!

Sanjay Leela Bhansali, the one who is known to make larger than life fictional worlds in his films, has now created another aesthetically pleasing universe with his OTT debut, Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar. The series stars Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Richa Chaddha, Sharmin Segal and Sanjeeda Sheikh in pivotal roles. We see all of these women in the 1 minute teaser and by the looks of it, it feels like each one of them have completely different personalities. The series is said to be a mix of love, betrayal, succession and politics in the Kothas of Lahore (house of courtesans). In the first look, we also notice quintessential Sanjay Leela Bhansali elements like the top angle shot with a court full of women doing Kathak and their anarkalis flying while they do the chakkars. Manisha Koirala, who we’re seeing after such a long time, gives a soulful look to the camera while there’s Mehendi all over her hands.

One of the tag lines in the teaser says “Love, Power and Freedom” and it seems like the story is set during pre-independence India where there was conflict and struggle for freedom. All of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s films have background music that lingers on the mind for a long time, and even in this tiny first look of the series, we hear an impactful tune that makes you want to eagerly await the release of the show. While the release date is not out yet, it is confirmed that it will be released sometime this year! Heeramandi continues Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s cinematic legacy by blending history with emotion and cinematographic brilliance.
