#LetsKetchup: From Animal Discourse to Barbienheimer, this year was filled with not just content releasing but a whole lot of social media trends coming in over them. So here are the Binge Trends of 2023 that kept us all busy!
Films are not just for entertainment anymore, especially in this day and age of digital media, where everyone is constantly on social media. Cinema has become a part of pop culture that rips apart every content released to make it a part of discussions, memes, content creation, dissent, and so much more. So it is inevitable that we saw so many different Binge Trends of 2023 that kept us busy all throughout the year. Whether it was getting all dolled up for a party-festival feel like in Cinemas and with SRK films, having a discourse over disappointing films like Animal or Adipurush, or just simply brewing over KWK, we had our hands very busy this year!

Here is where we were busy discussing the various Binge Trends of 2023!
After the release of the film, the internet blew apart, with critics pouring in their views to debate issued everywhere. While scenes and dialogues were brought in to discuss what was wrong about the film, there were counter-arguments also made based on 'it's a film, watch it as a film'. From this to that, from critics, filmmakers, and people to the director himself, everyone was involved in a tussle between getting offended by the film or loving it. No matter which side you picked up on, Animal was all the obsession as well as discourse over it!
If history has taught us anything, it was about two massive films released together; then it will be recorded as the biggest clash between films. But this year, while both Barbie (painting the whole world pink) and Oppenheimer were busy with promotions, the world thought of why choose one to watch and why not both? Hence, with memes, social media posts, theatre bookings for weeks, and so much more, the world got busy with #Barbenheimer and showed up to watch the films in costumes!
Since the year kicked off its wheel, it was made clear that this would be the year of Shah Rukh Khan! First, he was returning to the big screen after four years, and second, he had three films lined up for release with Pathan in January, Jawan in September to Dunki in December. Everywhere on social media, you see his old interviews, references to his old films like Om Shanti Om or personal life like 'Bete ko haath lagane se pehle baap se baat kar', and so much more. Clearly, it was just not SRK in films but rather a celebration of everything he is as a person!
Rocky Aur Rani being all the rage!
Just after the song What Jhumka was released, the craziness of the already anticipated Rocky Aur Rani ki Prem Kahani hit high. As if Karan Johar making a film after a long time that too with Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt wasn't enough to get us all on our feet, we had everyone dancing, Alia's promotional saree looks already being recreated, and that wasn't enough. After the release of the film just one week after #Barbenheimer's release, people loved the film and couldn't help jumping with joy while celebrating the film with recreating costumes, dialogues, and of course tons of discussion!
Adipurush, the joke experiment of the year!
After its teaser release, Adipurush was a film that was so talked about that they pushed the film's release date with the promise of editing the mistakes. But the trailer only hid the questionable parts, which got clearer as soon as the film was released and became the source of ridicule, so much so that people started calling it that this was not our Ramayana. Its dialogues had to take the most heat, and the film received harsh criticism from both critics and audiences alike who hated it.
The new season 8 of the show Koffee With Karan, a show with which we have a love-hate relationship, hit Disney+ Hotstar. It was all everyone could talk about. From fighting over Deepika's choice of having a casual relationship mentioned in the Deepika-Ranveer episode, falling over Kiara and Sid's relationship to reminiscing about Kuch Kuch Hota Hai with Kajol and Rani, every episode has given the internet something to talk about!
With the release of Pathan, YRF started off its universe, where it will connect Tiger, Pathan, and Kabir from War together to make a larger universe. As the production house released Tiger 3, every dot started to connect with SRK and Hrithik's cameo in it. It will be humongous to see all three in one film. But on another front, YRF, from its own universe, also brought a documentary about its legacy- The Romantics and ventured its debut on OTT with The Railway Men!
Whether you liked the film or not, no one can deny that the film, with all its debutants, Netflix promotions, marketing, and given it was a Zoya Akhtar film was all the buzz. From that star-studded premiere in NMACC, the extensive marketing planned by Netflix, to all the nepotism talk, The Archies was much spoken about!
