International pop artist, Avanti Nagral, gets into a candid chat about her life, her passion for music and more with us.

India is blessed with many amazing talents who are making the country proud on a global level. These talents represent the country while showcasing their skills. Music is one field that has made way for a number of incredible artists to rep' the county on a global scale with their musical talent. The talented artist, Avanti Nagral is one such singer who has got the world humming her songs. She is an international pop singer who released her original music in 2017 and has developed various properties related to music throughout her life. Avanti Nagral has performed across US, India and Southeast Asia. We recently had a chat with the artist where she spoke about her love for music and more!

  1. What made you start creating content and when did you begin?

"I’m an international pop artist, and I’ve performed across the US, India and Southeast Asia. I started releasing original music in 2017, and have developed many other content properties in the interim related to music, duality and social impact."

  1. What makes your content stand out?

"All my content draws on my interdisciplinary experiences, and sense of duality. I’ve lived exactly half my life between Bombay and Boston, am currently pursuing a dual degree at both Harvard and the Berklee College of Music, and am an artist as much as I am a social entrepreneur. Most of my original properties (#SongOnTheSpot, #avanTIPS, my original music) stem from either need gaps I saw that needed to be addressed, or just out of a whim and fancy to combine multiple art forms."

  1. How do you choose what to promote on your feed and what not to?

"It depends a lot on my release schedule! If I have original music coming out, that’s the main focus, otherwise, it’s a combination of original properties and just expressions of my personality. While I think planning out social media definitely makes your life easier, if you plan it TOO much, it seems too curated. People respond most to authenticity."

  1. One instance/experience that made it all worthwhile?

"When people share their stories of how they connected with my song/speech/content, how it affected them, changed their perspective or gave them the courage to do something. That human connection is irreplaceable."

  1. What does a regular day look like for you?

"Depends on where in the world I am. In the US, I’m currently balancing 2 colleges along with my professional life, so it involves a LOT of travel, time management, juggling performances, papers, videos and training, and more. In India, it involves a LOT of meetings, ideation, management etc."

  1. How do you make moolahs?

"Live shows, brand associations, speaking work, appearances etc."

7. Where do you get ideas for your videos from?

"My steps are:

  • What can I authentically talk about?
  • What is my target audience and what would they connect with?
  • Has it been done before? If so, how is mine different, and how is it not oversaturated?
  • What’s my core message?"

8. Weirdest brief ever received?

"To promote a hot wings brand. If anyone had done their research, they would know that I’m vegetarian and very particular about my diet."

  1. If not an artist, what would you be?

"I wasn’t an artist, it would be important for me to still cultivate the use of my voice in multiple ways. I would probably do what I’m doing now but reversed; instead of being an artist with social messages, I’d work in the social impact space (including perhaps as a doctor, global health expert etc), and integrate the arts."
