Anushka Sharma will be seen as Jhulan Goswami in Netflix's Chakda ‘Xpress

Netflix announced its new film Chakda ‘Xpress starring Anushka Sharma as Jhulan Goswami. The film will be directed by Prosit Roy.

In a country where cricket is a religion and Sachin Tendulkar is considered to be a God, it's interesting to finally see the contribution of women to the sport. Often the journey of a sportswoman is double the struggle in our country since she has to sacrifice so much and to get where she is. Especially if it's cricket we're talking about since it's heavily male-dominated and popularised by men in our country. So it's refreshing to see the stories of women cricketers finally coming to light. First, it was Taapsee Pannu who was bringing in Mithali's story and now it's Anushka Sharma who is all set to bring us Jhulan Goswami's story.

Netflix announced the filming of Chakda 'Xpress starring Anushka as Jhulan. Set in 2008, this film is based on the life of former Indian captain, Jhulan Goswami. It will talk about the manner in which the unknown Indian women's cricket team sacrificed and struggled to make themselves known, how they played the sport with passion against Australia. Watch out for Anushka's look as Jhulan, it's commendable!

The video features the team showing the conditions that the Indian women's cricket team played in 2008. From no audience in the stadium to pasting their names over some male cricketer's names on their jerseys. There in enters captain Jhulan (Anushka) who promises that the way they have entered today with their names pasted, they will soon enter into this sport with their identities known and make it theirs too.

Chakda Xpress is being directed by the director of Pari, Prosit Roy, and is produced by Karnesh Ssharma and Anushka Sharma’s Clean Slate Filmz. The title of the film seems to be inspired by the name given to the most celebrated cricketer Jhulan Goswami. She was born in Chakdaha in West Bengal and earned the title of Chakdaha Express after becoming one of the fastest bowlers in women’s cricket. The film promises to shine a light on Jhulan and all women cricketers and everything they had to endure!
