Panchayat review

Amazon Prime Video's original series, Panchayat featuring Jitendra Kumar dropped recently and has been garnering positive reactions ever since.

Did you imagine the Panchayat we learned in school with people sitting around a banyan tree? Well, this sure happens in a village but is not about our textbook definition of a Panchayat. That show is built around its lead, netizen’s favourite Jitendra Kumar's character and the plethora of different and unexpected situations that take place after his job forces him to move to a remote village. The trailer for this Amazon Prime Video original dropped a few weeks ago and caught everybody's attention right then.

The story talks about Abhishek Tripathi a Delhi guy who is unable to find a good job despite being a graduate in the city. He is forced to take the only job offer he gets which is a government job in a remote village. A comedy-drama, this show talks about the ordeal of the village and the unattractive job at hand that the young man is forced to face.

This show apart from the web-series favourite Jitendra Kumar has a bunch of other talented faces that have a huge following. Neena Gupta, Raghuvir Yadav, Chandan Roy to name a few, grace the show with their incredible acting. Amazon which seems to have a liking for rural areas, as we have seen in its other originals, has tried its best to deliver and bring in all of the village's glory on the screen. Jitendra who plays the unhappy young guy trapped in a place he never wanted to be in has as usual delivered his best performance. Apart from discussing the ordeal of the man, the show also touches upon various socially relevant topics through its subtle humour. It talks about topics like gender equality, dowry and family planning as well as the patriarchy that exists in villages.
