Being a F.R.I.E.N.D.S. fan like a million others, I’ve always wanted a F.R.I.E.N.D.S. reunion.
Now that I know it’s happening, I’m not sure I have the courage to watch the FRIENDS reunion episode that I’ve eagerly been waiting for, ever since I watched the last episode. When I first heard about the reunion being shot, I was over the moon. The teaser left me teary-eyed, and the trailer gave me goosebumps. But each of these instances made me wonder if I’m really ready to watch it. Why?
Well, don't get me wrong; I’m crazy excited about this episode that I’ll definitely end up watching. But watching it means putting an end to something that kept me enthralled all these years, that felt like I was hanging out with them on that sofa in Central Perk. This episode is like the end of an era, and my hope of watching the six of them together again will die with it. And I’m not sure if I can live with the fact that, after this, there will be nothing to make me feel comforted; no reunion to look forward to, no fake movie trailers, no rumors about the series coming up with the next season, no public appearances of six friends we fell in love with. I don’t think I am prepared for this void!
When I was desperately praying for a reunion, I thought it would cover answers to questions like who did Joey marry? Did Phoebe and Mike have kids? How are Chandler and Monica handling twins in the suburbs? Did Ross and Rachel finally get married? What are Ben, Emma, Erica, and Jack up to? It was Emma's 18th birthday last year! With the format of the reunion episode, my questions will remain unanswered. This episode is an interview with 6 of my closest friends - Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry, and David Schwimmer, who will relive the ten golden years of shooting. All of these actors have made public appearances over the years and given us a sneak peek into their lives on social media. While watching them on the set of F.R.I.E.N.D.S. is nostalgic for us, it hits so hard that our F.R.I.E.N.D.S. have aged now! Seeing Matthew Perry having trouble speaking at the People Magazine's interview made me and thousands of fans worry about his well-being.
Having said that, I know I will watch the reunion episode. I will weep when I see them get together and part ways yet again. And then, I will rewatch the series from Episode 1 - “The One Where Monica Gets a Roommate.”, on the same night because I won’t be able to stand the fact that the reunion is also over. Then I’ll scroll through Instagram where we’ll all be mourning this loss together.
