Aditya Chopra has proved himself to be a prolific filmmaker of the Indian film industry and on his birthday we breakdown his career trajectory so far and know the man he really is!
We’ve all grown up watching Yash Raj Films and fallen head over heels with the idea of love. But rarely do we give any credit to the person behind it all. The one who redefined his own father’s legacy and made it 10 times better. Aditya Chopra is the mastermind who has the instincts to make a blockbuster. Ever since he was child, he was fascinated by the world of movies and how could he not? It was in his blood after all. He spent most of youth at cinemas watching movie after movie, understanding the dynamics of it. The docu-series ‘The Romantics’, based on the legacy of YRF, gave us insight into what his life was like as a young adult. The diary he maintained where he wrote about every film he watched, every film he wished to make, whether it would work, break box office records or flop at the cinema, he had a master plan ready all along. Movies were all he knew and he lives and breathes it.
He made his first feature film, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jaayenge. It changed Hindi cinemas as we know it. It is one of the most successful and the longest running movies at a cinema house in the world till date. It had such a big impact on pop culture and we all fell in love with Shahrukh and Kajol’s chemistry on-screen. His second film, Mohabbatein, again went on to win hearts with a fresh new love story everyone seemed to get hooked on to. Then came Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, his third directorial that gave us all the magic feels and butterflies in our stomach. From its soulful songs to meeting a fresh new face like Anushka Sharma, it had us smiling ear to ear in one scene and sobbing in the next. Befikre was a bold attempt on his part but it is not one of his popularly directed feature films and neither did it do well at the box office.
He has only directed 4 films so far, but he has produced several of them, many of which we have loved and watched over and over again. He is the ultimate decision maker at Yash Raj and he was one of the first few people to make an entire studio for his production house, where they can shoot their films entirely. He has produced more than a 100 films now. Bunty aur Babli, the Dhoom franchise, Chak De India, Band Baaja Baarat, Veer-Zaara, Fanaa, and many more have been some of his majorly successful films as a producer. He is also the man behind YRF’s spy universe that had us all super entertained at the beginning of this very year. Even though movies are his world, he is known to be away from the limelight. He lets his work speak more than his words and that's a rarity for celebrities for the industry these days. He grew up on a movie set and learnt so much from his father but took the Yash Raj name further with a fresh new perspective.
Happiest Birthday to the living legend who still continues to contribute to Indian cinema in his own extraordinary ways!
