After watching Ponniyin Selvan, if your mind is still in the historical era where all that mattered was fighting for the throne, then these historical dramas are perfect for you!
Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan-I is currently garnering a lot of love from the audience. The film focuses on the Chola dynasty, one of the longest ruling dynasties in the history of India, and is based on a book by Kalki Krishnamurthy of the same name. The story shows us the rise of Arulmozhi Varman who is the Chola empire’s greatest warrior. The movie had everything from grand sets, war-like feels, and characters dressed in the most expensive jewels and costumes. Just everything you need to get engrossed in the world of a period drama. Highly talented actors of the south like Vikram, Trisha, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, and of course, our very own Aishwarya Rai Bachchan portrayed pivotal characters of the story phenomenally.
Since most historical dramas depict things from the past, they play with our imagination and show what or how a particular event in history took place. Who doesn’t wanna know about that? It’s just too interesting to let go. This is why most of the time when you love a period drama, you feel like watching other movies made on similar lines to keep that curiosity of ours about our own history going. And we sure do have a lot of other period dramas to rely on that give us the same magnum opus feeling that Mani Ratnam’s recent blockbuster gave us.
